Everything But Water has rolled out a sustainable packaging initiative comprised of two components: a complete re-design of eCommerce boxes and packing materials and a pilot of the use of glassine in place of polybags. On the former, eCommerce shipments are now made in brown corrugated paper boxes and brown flat mailers made from 100% post-consumer waste. Brown paper stuffing has replaced plastic bubble wrap where added protection is necessary. These materials contribute to a lower carbon footprint and are more easily recycled at end of life. The glassine pilot rolls out this month on two of our brands, Summerful and MaxSwim. Polybags, traditionally used to protect goods in transit to our warehouse and to customers, contribute greatly to waste and are more difficult to properly recycle than other plastics. Glassine is compostable/biodegradable as it is paper and is a sound alternative to polybags. If this pilot is successful, we will continue to roll out this change across vendors and categories.
Last, we also replaced plastic gift cards with rigid, 100% post-consumer recycled paper. These cards are functional and attractive—the prior plastic will not be missed. Thank you for being on this journey with us as we continuously re-look at our materials and processes to upgrade our choices with an eye to protecting our planet.
